Chalobah returned to the starting line-up for Chelsea in Monday’s 3-1 Premier League win over Wolves and, in addition to his impressive defensive work, almost scored the final goal when he headed the ball over the line, only for Noni Madueke to head it home.

Maresca spoke highly of Chalobah’s performance, partnering Tosin Adarabioyo at centre, who scored the team’s first goal. “They both did a great job, Tosin and Trev,” he said.

“Everyone did well, including Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. They haven’t played for us for a long time and overall it was a good performance.”

On Robert Sanchez’s mistake, which saw the ball slip before Wolves equalised, Maresca said: “You said it was the fourth mistake, right? Okay. How many saves has he made for us? More than four.”

“So, no problem at all. It happened. Mistakes happened to him, as they always do with the forwards and the midfielders. He’s done well.”
