Fiorentina have confirmed that midfielder Edoardo Bove has undergone successful surgery to insert a pacemaker after he collapsed during a Serie A game against Inter Milan on December 1.
The 22-year-old has been fitted with a removable internal pacemaker at the Careggi Hospital in Florence, where he has been receiving treatment since the shocking incident earlier this month.
In a statement, Fiorentina confirmed that Bove is now preparing to leave hospital, with permission to return later this week.
The Italy Under-21 international has been in contact with the club since undergoing surgery and has told colleagues he is fine.
Fiorentina said in a statement: “ACF Fiorentina can announce that the surgery of the team’s footballer Edoardo Bove was successful.”
“Edoardo contacted the club a few minutes ago and said in his own words that he is fine and will continue with the post-operative process before being discharge from hospital in the next few days.”
The Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD), a type of pacemaker that can prevent fatal cardiac arrest by delivering a shock to restore a normal heart rhythm, is not permitt in Serie A.
